He treats both adult and pediatric conditions and also works with professional athletes on their spine-related injuries. In addition, Dr. Cohen takes the time to lecture at international conferences and other such events in order to train fellow surgeons in the latest spine-surgery techniques.
Dr. Anders Cohen is a specialist in cutting-edge spinal surgery techniques that are minimally invasive, as well as motion preservation and spinal fusion techniques. He was the first doctor in New York to perform the revolutionary new AxiaLIF (Trans1) and XLIF procedures. In the past, spinal surgery was extremely invasive, requiring large incisions in the abdominal and/or back areas, thus making any procedure long, costly, delicate, and potentially problematic. In addition, even after a successful spinal surgery, recovery was quite often protracted and painful as well thanks to the extensive and invasive nature of the procedures performed, and often required a significant amount of pain management.
The new techniques utilized by Dr. Anders Cohen are by contrast far less invasive and less painful, and as a result the recovery time is reduced significantly. For instance, the newer procedures utilized to treat degenerative disc disease only require the surgeon to make one small incision near the patient’s tailbone, providing them with a safe area within which to work and repair damaged discs. In addition, patients who have been operated on using the new techniques are usually released by hospitals 24 hours after surgery, and can return to their daily routines within only two to three weeks of their release.
